Pregnancy is one of the most difficult stages in a woman's life. It is a crucial moment when they must undergo regular medical check-ups, diet care, vitamin consumption, and constant clinical studies. These multiple cares are part of their daily life. However, we must also add to this the factor of air Pollution.
Pollution and Pregnancy
Recently, a study carried out by the Biomedical Research Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico determined that babies born in Mexico City have traces of pollution in their genetic material.
According to the research, exposure to air pollutants can also cause babies to be born with less weight and height, as revealed by the study carried out with nearly 300 women who live in the north of Mexico City and in the Iztapalapa municipality. "We wanted to know if air pollution affected the newborn in any way and if the polluted air that mothers breathe reaches the babies."
According to the study, led by María Eugenia Gonsebatt, an academic at the Institute, the burning of fuels, gasoline, and gas, as well as fires release particles into the atmosphere that react with our cells, bind and produce mutations in our genetic material, which is why they are considered dangerous.
Other studies to take into account
Another study that should also be taken into account is the one carried out by the scientific journal Nature Communications, which determined that air pollution can cause premature births, abortions, and low birth weight.
Nature's research is based on exposure to pollution prenatally, resulting in low birth weight, premature births, intrauterine growth restriction, and cognitive performance. In addition, this study also suggests that black carbon particles in the lungs of mothers can be transferred to the placenta.
Although the long-term effects of pollution on infants exposed to pollution are not yet known, neither the UNAM study nor Nature comment on the matter, it was found that the more exposed mothers and babies were, the more damage was found to their blood cells, “in addition, we saw that the greater the exposure, the lower the weight and size of babies at birth,” the UNAM study states.
What can be done to reverse this exposure?
The best way to avoid this scenario described in the studies is to avoid overexposure, give preference to closed places have air purifiers, and have HEPA filtration systems for residences or offices.
At Air-Care de México we have the best solutions in air purifiers for residences. Such as the FPA60uw, FPA80UW, or GC Multigas purifiers. Devices created for domestic use, are designed to control a broad spectrum of gaseous and odor pollutants, as well as particles.
There are also portable alternatives such as the IQ AIR ATEM Winix A230, and personal air options to take with you everywhere. So that pregnant women can carry the devices everywhere and take care of the quality of the air they breathe.
At Air-Care de México we are committed to providing you with solutions to take care of the quality of the air that the people around you breathe. We also provide you with advice on how to take care of your health and prevent diseases related to poor air quality. Start improving your health and your motherhood here.
