The 7th International Exhibition and Conference 'Non-Woven Expo Bangladesh-2026' was held grandly again in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, after a 7-year stint. At the same time, the 10th edition of 'Bangladesh Leather and Footwear Expo-2026' was held grandly at the same venue after a 10-year stint.
Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA), Leather Engineers and Technologists Society, Bangladesh (LETSBS) and LIMRA Exhibitions jointly organized this exhibition. The exhibition was held for three days from September 24 to 26, 2026 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) located in Kuril, the capital. The timings were: 10 am to 7 pm every day. More than 200 renowned companies from home and abroad and their selected representatives displayed their products and technologies in this exhibition.
On September 24, 2026, Mr. Mohammad Ataur Rahman Khan, NDC, Honorable Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, was present as the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony. Mr. Benazir Ahmed, Chairman, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) was present as the Special Guest. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. Kazi Sarwar Uddin, Director, Limra Exhibitions. The function was presided over by Mr. Mohammad Sakawat Ullah, Senior Vice Chairman, Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA).
The leather industry is second only to the garment industry in earning foreign exchange in Bangladesh. However, this industry has a bright potential to capture new markets and create a better position in old markets. For this, proper planning and special initiatives are essential. In addition to tanned leather from Bangladesh, shoes, travel bags, belts and wallets are now being exported abroad. There is also a demand for various 'fancy' products made of leather. There are many handicraft companies in Bangladesh, which manufacture these products and send them to the world market. Apart from the big companies, there are about 5,500 small shoe factories in the country. Bangladesh is the eighth largest shoe producing country in the world and the ninth largest consumer market. The country produces 220 million square feet of leather every year. 50 percent of this leather is used in the country's leather industry. The rest is processed and exported. Bangladesh's leather is mainly exported to Italy, South Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In the last five decades, exports in the leather sector have increased more than 70 times. The demand for shoes in this country is increasing by leaps and bounds. Many domestic companies are getting orders for making shoes from world-renowned companies. As a result, many companies producing leather and leather products have already taken initiatives to expand their business. 90 percent of the raw materials for this industry are available in the country. Only 50 percent of the tanned leather produced is used to make shoes and other products. From that point of view, it is possible to double the expansion of the leather products and shoe industry.
On the other hand, most industries have gone through a recession due to the Corona pandemic. In this situation, the non-woven industry has become much busier than before. The market for non-woven service products such as medical, healthcare, sanitation, wipes, etc. has been declared an essential business, and there is an unprecedented high demand for medical equipment such as protective clothing, masks, and respirators. This means that many companies in this industry must increase production or expand existing businesses to new markets.
Considering these, today's exhibition has been organized under one roof with the latest products and technologies from world-renowned companies in the industry. The organizers believe that the role of the exhibition will become even more important in the future. This exhibition will play a special role in transforming Bangladesh into a new Bangladesh, this is their goal and objective.
