The possibilities of synthetic fiber clothing are gradually increasing

Due to the demand, the production of synthetic fiber garments is gradually increasing in Bangladesh. For that reason, the import of artificial fibers is also increasing. Although three-four textile mills in the country are producing synthetic fibers. However, most of the textile mills are importing polyester staple fiber, viscose staple fiber, and tensile fiber, and producing yarn and fabric from abroad.

A company started commercial production of artificial silk invented by French engineer and industrialist Hilaire de Chardon. Less than two years later, in 1894, the business went bankrupt. Today's reality cannot be reconciled with that incident 127 years ago. Because the reign of natural cotton or cotton clothes has been invaded by manmade fibers or artificial fibers.

It is difficult to understand the success of synthetic fiber clothing in Bangladesh. Because we are still used to cotton clothes. Even the country's exporters export three-fourths of the garments of cotton throughout the year. But the reality of countries like Europe-America is very different.

In 2019, 19,000 to 20,000 crore dollars worth of synthetic fiber clothing was exported from one country to another. In 2025, it may increase to 40 thousand crore dollars. Grand View Research, a research institute based in the United States and India, has made such predictions. However, there is some disagreement as to what percentage of the world's total clothing is synthetic fibers. However, according to the Switzerland-based International Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), 78 percent of total clothing worldwide is synthetic fibers. The remaining 22 percent is cotton fiber.

Eco-consciousness is increasing among consumers all over the world. Cotton production requires a lot of water. Then the clothes are dyed or smoked or a lot of water is used for washing. Because of this, consumer organizations are turning to synthetic fibers or recycled garments. Another major reason is rapid fashion change. There are no synthetic fibers involved in the creation of modern fashion garments. Besides being comfortable and durable, various types of experiments can be done easily.

Bangladesh is the second leading country in the export of ready-made garments in the world. First China and third Vietnam. Still, Bangladesh lags behind Vietnam in the export of synthetic fiber clothing. While Vietnam occupies 10 percent of the world's synthetic fiber clothing, Bangladesh's share is close to 5 percent. But of late, Bangladeshi entrepreneurs are turning to synthetic fibers to boost garment exports. Investment in the production of synthetic fiber yarns and fabrics is increasing year by year.

Garment exporters say synthetic fibers are the future of the export-oriented garment sector. Most of the big brands and consumer organizations are turning to synthetic and recycled fibers to make their business sustainable. As a result, there is no time to sit idly by.
