The 5th International Exhibition and Conference "Non-Woven Expo Bangladesh-2024" was held in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh on June 6-8, 2024 in continuation of the last 5 years. At the same time, the eighth edition of the Bangladesh Leather and Footwear Expo has been held in Dhaka for the last 8 years.

On June 06, 2024, Mr. Mohammad Amin Helali, Senior Vice President of FBCCI attended the inaugural function as the Chief Guest. The Chairman of the Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) Mr. Md. Shaheen Ahmed presided over the event.

The exhibition is jointly organized by the Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA), Leather Engineers and Technologists Society, Bangladesh (LETSB), and Limra Exhibitions. The exhibition was held for three days from 06 to 08 June 2024 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Kurile, the capital. More than 250 reputed companies from home and abroad and their selected agents exhibit their products and technologies in this exhibition.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, most of the industries have been shut down. In this situation, the non-woven industry is busier than ever. The market for non-woven services such as medical, healthcare, sanitation, wipes, etc. products has been declared an essential business and there is unprecedented high demand for medical equipment such as protective clothing, masks, and respirators. This means many companies in this industry must increase production or expand existing businesses into new markets.

The leather industry is second only to the garment industry in earning foreign exchange in Bangladesh. However, this industry has bright potential to capture new markets and create a good position in old markets. Proper planning and special activities are essential for this. Apart from tanned leather from Bangladesh, now shoes, travel bags, belts, and wallets are being exported abroad. Various 'fancy' products made of leather are also in demand. There are many handicraft companies in Bangladesh who manufacture these products and send them to the global market. In addition to the big companies, there are about five and a half thousand small footwear factories in the country. Bangladesh is the 8th largest footwear-producing country in the world and the 9th largest consumer market in the world.

22 crore square feet of leather is produced in the country every year. 50 percent of these skins are used in the country's leather industry. The rest is processed and exported. Bangladeshi leather is exported more to Italy, South Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Exports of the leather sector have increased more than 70 times in the last five decades. The demand for shoes in this country is increasing by leaps and bounds.

Many domestic companies are getting footwear manufacturing orders from world-renowned companies. As a result, many companies producing leather and leather products have already taken initiatives to expand their business. 90 percent of the raw materials in this industry are available in the country. Only 50 percent of the tanned leather produced is used to make shoes and other products. From that side, the expansion of the leather products and footwear industry can be doubled.

Keeping this in mind, this exhibition is organized with the latest products and technologies of the world-famous companies of the industry under the same roof. Organizers believe that the role of exhibitions will be an even more important factor in the future. This exhibition will play a special role in transforming Sonar Bangladesh into Smart Bangladesh, which is their aim and objective.
